NRA Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC)
North Florida Regional Competition

March 28-29, 2009

This National Rifle Association sponsored competition is a multi-discipline event for youth 12 to 18 years old (Jr. Division 12-14; Sr. Division 15 or older). It consists of .22 rifle, muzzleloader and shotgun marksmanship, archery proficiency as well as written and hands-on tests of firearms safety, orienteering and wildlife identification. The Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission will then field a team to represent our state at the national competition. A pre-requisite to participate is that the youth must have successfully completed a state certified hunter safety course. Learn more about the Youth Hunter Education Challenge.

This year’s tournament will require your Troop and/or Venturing Crew shooting sports participants to register as a 5-person team(s) in the junior division (up to 14 years old) and/or the senior division (15 through 18 years old). FWC will have rifles, muzzleloaders, shotguns and bows for those participants that need them.

Please contact Greg Sheppard (904) 858-4424 or Brenda Heberling (352) 486-5131 for additional information.

To pre-register contact Steve Robbins in Lake City, (386) 754-1051 X-127 or JoAnne Peagler in Ocala, (352) 625-2804. Remember the pre-requisite to participate is that the youth must have successfully completed a state certified hunter safety course.
